Submission, Like Christ  ::   08.02.01

Submission is such a hated word these days.

It turns out, that in practice, submission is a beautiful thing.

Christ, as in all things, is our example. Jesus did not come for Himself, or in His own power, with His own message or His own agenda. He came from the Father. He came to do the will of His Father. He came to glorify the Father.

The Trinity is prefect submission in action. The Son submits to the Father, and the Holy Spirit submits to that Father and Son.

In the same way that the head of Christ is God, the head of man is Christ. The head of woman is man, for she came from man. She is the glory of man.

If our God works this way, if this is His pattern by which He carries out His will, then who are we to reject it?

The problem that exists is the corruption of God’s prefect system that has come about as a result of sin. With one bite of the fruit, Eve took control and with another bite Adam let her. We have been fighting against this role reversal ever since.

But, God makes all things new. He is able to restore a fallen husband and wife so that they are able to follow God’s perfect plan as it relates to each of their roles in their marriage. Without God, submission is pointless. Submission is a reflection of the Trinity, and when it put to use in a godly marriage, it is a beautiful thing.

A man serves his wife, lays down his life and leads her with sacrificial love and care. A woman serves her husband, lays down her life and honors him with sacrificial love and surrender.

Only by the grace of God.
