Love Like You Mean It  ::  09.12.01

Why do we try to cast off the ones we supposedly "love" when our relationship gets rocky? Is it just plain selfishness? Are we only seeking our own happiness and not the happiness of others?

This truly puzzles me.

Why would we say "I love you" one minute, but secretly in our hearts think "Aww, forget about him"? Shouldn’t love drive out such conditional affection? I guess that love’s not pure.

There is a pure love though. It’s the type that was reflected by our Savior. He never gives up on us or stops loving us, even though we sin against Him all day long.

He has shown the world His love and He’s told us how we can show it to others. But I am convinced that the root of all sin is pride and selfishness. We just can’t stop serving ourselves. It’s only when by God’s grace we seek to love others with pure motives that we love like we should.

If only I could do that more often. If only I could do that in the heat of my anger.

The only way I can is by much prayer and much grace. Sigh.
